Yesterday, 5-30-2012 was the last practice of the Randleman Reds. Coop was there with his arm in a sling but of course Jerry did not make it as he feels he is too good to practice. One boy flew to Puerto Rico to be with his dieing grandmother but my two assistant coaches were there. I decided to have some fun so I divided the squad into two teams with an assistant on each side and I pitched for both teams. We played what we used to call barrels. Since everyone there batted right handed, anything hit to the right of second base was considered a foul ball. We had a catcher, a third baseman, a shortstop, an outfielder and a first baseman on each team.
We played for an hour then regrouped, chose sides again and played a second game. It was fun. That is what baseball is supposed to be.
Even though the team went winless the kids were not losers. They came, they practiced hard, they played the best they could, they learned and they had a good time. They made some memories and hopefully some friends. I know I did.

it's official
My baseball eam has to forfeit allits tournament games due to lack of player participation. I hate when people don't follow through on committments, especially when many other people have to depend on them.

Strychnine poisoning
I have heard of strychnine and knew it was a powerful poison yet I have not heard of it being used in a crime in the USA until today. A man used it to kill his wife, his nephew, his second wife, his newborn twins and his two sons from his first marriage. He was from India. I learned that the poison is readily available there.
I'm glad it is illegal here.

Talented?
Watching Americas got talent makes me wish I had some skillor talent that would blow peoples minds but then I realize I would have to creative and have to put a lot of work into it and I think the effort just isn't worth the reward.
Some people just can't do anything right
A 22 year old woman, nine months pregnant had been gracious enough to drop her ex boyfriend off at his new girlfriends house in Detroit. Just after she pulled her car into the garage the garage door unexpectantly closed. Someone grabbed her by the throat, poured liquid on her and set her ablaze. She she got out of the car and started to roll she was shot.
Her ex did nothing to help her and is now considered a person of interest.
The womans assilant isn't very good at murder.
Thank God that some idiots are spastic too.

stupid, irratating website
A man from Auburn, Wash., was arrested after police say he punched a young boy (how old was he?) in the face for reportedly being too loud during a movie (which one?). The boy reportedly lost a tooth (what else happened to him?) and the man who allegedly hit him is facing charges (what kind?). The man also claims the boy threw things at him (see photos of what) and purposely bumped his arms.
I can't believe bing is still doing this. Just tell me the story. I don't have time for this nonsense.
Unwanted end
I know my little league team hasn't won a game all season but i liked the idea of the post season tournament in which only the bottom four teams would compete against each other. It has been a weak roaster for me all year with two players never showing up to begin with and a third quitting before the first game was played.
For half the year I only had ten players but managed to pick one an extra one half way thourgh. It was then the team became more competitive but the extra player wasn't eligible for the post season. I petitioned the league and was given the green light for him to play. I had a player quit the last day of the regular season and another inform me they would be on vacation for the post season. That left me with nine.
Yesterday one injured his arm and is out for two weeks which left me with eight, enough to play but
the wrong eight to have a chnce to win. The injured player was one of my pitchers and one of the better players on the team. Today another player called to inform me they would not be palying in the tournament. That would only leave me with seven. I can't even take the field with seven players. I don't mind losing if we try but accepting defeat due to forfeiting just isn't my style.
For some reason I believe that if one makes a committment one should follow through. It's just not fair to the team when people act in their own interests at the expense of everyone else.

Wall Street Sucks
Not really but I have meager savings and I depend on what little I have to make it each month. The current slide in the stock market really doesn't hurt at the moment but when I get really old and need some extra money for medical bills it just won't be there.
Quit selling your stocks so cheap.

Excellent day
The wife and I packed some sandwiches and headed off to meet family and friends at the zoo. Except for the sudden dropin sugar that me me shaky, cold, and weak just before lunch it was a fine morning, even if there were four kids along for the trip.
After lunch we meet up again and took in a few more attrations before heading home. The wife and I had to come back to Randleman to meet the cable guy to install his stuff. While he was doing that I weeded the front flower bed and the main vegatable garden, found a modem and some cables for the installer, transferred the digital photos and videos to a disc, and ran up to the rec center to pickup the photos for the baseball team.
After that we headed back to Asheboro to again meet up with family, have some chicken or pizza and say our goodbyes.
Tommorrow is back to the grind, mpowing the grass here and at the church, calling the team members who ordered photos so they can pick the packages up, and notifing all about the time change for the baseball tournament.

perferct record
The baseball season ended last night for the Randleman Reds, an eleven and twelve year old baseball team and the team accomplished a perfect winless season.
It's not as bad as it sounds. The next to the last game we played the team we played in game one. we lost that game 24-2 but played to a 4-5 loss in extra innings in our final matchup. That's progress.
My problem is with the post season tournament. My team only had eleven players. One is going to the beach that week and one playe quit on the last day. That only leaves nine. One player didn't show up because he had somnething else would rather do and another only wants to pitch so he decided he didn't want to play the second game.
I had one player I cited for unsportsman-like conduct and had I had the players I would have sat him out but for the sake of the team and the players from others teams I played him anyway. Only six players made every game and 5 made every practice. I hate not playing in the post season tournament for those guys. I received permission to play a player that didn't join the team until halfway into the season in the tournament so I have 9 eleigible players but one of those will be at the beach so I'll only have eight and one is undependable and the other has a bad attitude.
Considering we have lost 15 games in a row including scrimmage and pre-season, I have no assistant coach to help, only 8 players and one with a bad attitude, and parents and kids have to pay to get into the tournament, I am considering not entering.
What do you think?

Myrtle Beach Summer Snow and blue heron
The picture of the bird is the critter that has been eating my fish. I put a net over the pond and it became stuck in it. It is a little small than a crow but larger than a blackbird and has a long neck. I'm not exactly sure what kind of bird it is but it should be a member of the heron or egret family.
The neighbors cat, which caught a squirell yesterday, came over and thought it had a free meal but I cut the bird free from the net and set it free. It promptly flew back into the net so I had to capture it and set it free the secon time. This time it flew back into the net again soI had to recue it the third time. It finally flew off. If it comes back either the cat or I willdo away with the creature.
The bottom photo is of a phenomenon I saw at Myrtle Beach State Park in S. C., in case someone didn't know where it was. I'm not sure you can see clearly what I'm about to tell you even if you enlarge the picture by clcking on it but what I am about to say is true and the reason for the picture.
A fluffy white substance was fallingand it stronly resembled snow and the ground was covered in this white fluffy stuff so thick it looked as if the ground was covered in a heavy dusting of snow. This stuff was only falling in one localized area not far from where the oak tree is just before exiting the hiking trail near the bathroom. This was last month. The wife and I had gone to Myrtle Beach to attend the Singing in the Sun and this was the day before the concert.

Just Sayin
"Just sayin" is a phrase usually added at the end of a statement that means absolutely nothing. It's kind of like having an opinion and expressing it and then apologizing for expressing that opnion. Someone sent in a text to "Dancing with the Stars" which said ' If_ and _ don't win I;m going to pick up my TV and throw it against the wall. Just sayin."
I read what the writer wrote. What did "just saying" add to the statement? Absolutely nothing. It's just an irratant tacked on to dilute the force of the statement, like apologizing in advance in case someone disagrees with your opinion, like you believe you are the sole person holding that belief or opinion.
One other that that irratates me is people who can't count words. Some says "I've got two words for you "I'm leaving." No, that's three words. Just because you make a contraction does not change the word count. In the above example, I'm is actually two words--I am and just because someone chooses to make a contraction does not alter the word count.

Danger in a pretty package
I really enjoy my Koi pondbut several days ago a blue heron showed up and has been hanging around ever since, looking for fresh fish to eat so i had to break out the netting to descourage the heron from trying to satisfy its hunger at my, and my fish's, expense.
I've tried to get its picture but to no avail so far.

It takes teamwork
One of the players on my baseball team can throw the ball faster than the other boys. Suprisingly, he is the second smallest kid on the team. One thing he has failed to realize is that being able to throw a ball faster than anyone else doesn't make him a good pitcher. He is only twelve and a twelve year old doesn't need to throw a hundred pitchesin a game.
One thing I learned watching Little League baseball is that throwing more than 70 pitches a game is harder on an arm than throwing curve balls. Now I have a good team but just don't have many good players on the team. Lately, the team has started to break down.
A couple of games ago my pitcher refused to play unless I put him in as catcher. Today we played a double header and I played him in right field. He sulked both games. He openly admitted he was mad because he didn't get to pitch.
It's hard to change someones attitude. Talking to him about sportsmanship and teamwork isn't going to work. That has already been proven. What I would do, if I could, is to let him pitch but have the other players refuse to play. No matter how good one is, a person cannot make it alone. God made Adam a helpmeetbecause even in a perfect world one cannot go it alone. This kid needs to learn that. He is part of a team and if he expects to participate and garner success, then he needs to contribute at whatever position he is given to play.

In North Carolina gay marriage vote, it's Bill Clinton versus Billy Graham
The title to this post is from an MSN article, which I didn't read. What exactly does either Bill Clinton or Billy Graham have to do with the vote? I've never heard either of them mentioned in any one's discussion of gay marriage. To me, it was all about tradition and common sense.
Stealing yourown stuff from the thief
A story on MSN tells about a man who had his bicycle stolen and when he saw it later he srole it back.
I remember when I was a student at Sam Houton State 8-track tapes were popular so many people bought 8-track tape players for their cars. A fellow student and friend had his player stolen and he wasn't happy about it. One night several of us were with him when he pulled into an A & W drive-in for a late night meal. After he said he was going to steal someone else's player to replace the one that was stolen from him I decided I would go inside to place my order. In my defense, I didn't really believe he was going to steal a player but just in case he did, I didn't want to have any knowledge of the crime.
After returning to the car with my order, my friend quickly backed out of his parking place and took off. Laying on the floor was an 8-track tape player. 'You really didn't steal that, did you" I asked in disbelief that I actually knew a thief.
"Sort of but not really," he replied. "I just stole my own 8-track."

Gay marriage ban
It is a shame that we had to have an admendment t oour state constitution to ban gay marriage. The issue isn't Chritian values versus secular values. Most societies in the present day world recognize marriage as being between men and women and it has been that way for centuries, and probably from the dawn of mankind.
And no, I'm not a stupid Christian who thinks the world is only 6,000 years old. The recorded history of man only dates back around 6,000 years and that is a scientific fact but that is another subject altogether.
The marriage ban should not affect children as gay couples can not reproduce. Yes, I know gay couples have kids but there had to be an opposite sex union there somewhere. As a hetrosexual (I was born this way) I find even the idea of sex with a same sex person as myself to be revolting. If a gay person (born that way)has sex with a person of the opposite sex in order to conceive a child then they made a concious choice to have sex with the opposite gender. They seem to only prefer their own gender and do not act as revolted to have sex with the opposite gender as I would be.
It doesn't appear that they are being as honest about their true self as they claim to be.
People are as entitled to have a relationship with whomever they want as they are entitled to remain relationship free. But should the state sanction all relationships? A man and woman living together isn't recognized as a marriage and not all couples want that legal sanction.
In order for a society to function properly then there has to be rules, regulations, and laws. It is through these legal means that a society functions. Life is tough enough as it is without all this confusing nonsence thrown in.

I am an optimist
I attend a church that is one of the smallest, if not the smallest in the county, I had a job that cost me $700.00 to go to, and I coach a baseball team that is 0-8 and have lost by a combined score of 125-24 and I am positive life is good.
I believe the church will grow and I believe my baseball team will win a game. The job I'm not to keen on but I'm positive I will find one that meets my needs.

Please explain
"Military officials have told NBC News that Clark died of an apparent massive heart attack. Grey says an autopsy is being done to determine the cause of death."
Apparent means that it is obvious, readily seen or observed. If that is so then there shoud be no doubt.
How can it be apparent he died of a massive heart attack? He could have died from numerous other causes. One line said he died of natural causes, which a massive heartattack isn't natural. Natural causes means a person gets old or worn out and his organs cease to function. It's kind of like a car. Never change or add oil and the car doesn't last long--like having a massive heart attack. But take good care of it and it will last longer but eventually the parts will wear thin and break. That's natural.

Learn to count
.
Pettitte nodded.
"I'd say that's fair," he replied.
Roger Clemens took notes on Andy Pettitte's testimony. (Reuters)
And in four words he might have destroyed the case of the attorneys for whom he was supposed to be the star witness.
six words actually. I would say that is fair. Even though it is a contraction, it should count as two words.

AAA: Inadequate guardrails at NY site where 7 died
Extremely dangerous road combined with excessive speed (68 in a 50) lead to the death of 7 people in New York. Two Grandparents, their two daughters and three Grandchildren perished when the van they were in flew over the guardrails and plunged 6 feet to their deaths.
One of the daughters was drivng the van when sge hit a center divider causing her to loose control over the van. The vehicle then struck a curk causing the van to go airborne and fly over the 4-foot guardrail.
True, the highway was dangerous and true, the driver was probably only keeping up with traffic flow but the highway was dangerous and the posted speed limit was 50 due to those conditions. Would the accident have happened had she been obeying the law?
The husband of one victim quickly blamed the state for having inadequate safety percaustions in place claiming that was the cause of the accident. Had the woman obeyed the speed limit I would have been the first to agree but since she was driving so fast it is obvious she allowed other factors to cloud her judgement.
Her family paid the price for her allowing herself to be pressured by the actions of others.
