A recent program on NPR had a guest, some professor, who holds the position that religion plays no part in whether abortion is proper or not and the laws of nature should only apply. His claim is that religion has nothing to say about abortion but he only quoted from the bible and only referenced various popes as his authority.

It is a sin for a man to spill his seed upon the ground. Gen 38:8 "And Judah said Onan, Go into thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother (9) And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went into his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the groud, lest he should give seed to his brother (10) And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.

Seed is used many times to refer to children. It has been a long held belief (of the Roman Catholic Church) that sex is only for pro-creation therefore using abortion as a form of birth control would have to be wrong.

Another falacy in the mans argument is that he only quoted from Christian religios leaders and text but totally ignored the teachings of many other religions. He made the assumption that human life begins, not a conception, but in the third trimester. What is the belief that life began when it began and is a continual process of being passed from one being to another.

It is his contention that neither politician nor religion should play any part in the decsion to have or not have an abortion but that it should be a decsion left entirely up to the women. I agree that a woman should have control and exercise control of her body, especially before she gets pregnant.

While I am pro-life and do not believe abortion should be legal, I also don't necessarily believe that making it illegal should make it a criminal offense
