typical mistake

Amos Quick, Guilford Co. Schools
He is outspoken, is sometimes controversial and holds several jobs. But the vice chair of the Guilford County Board of Education is about to do a 360 with his life.
WGHP, Tue, Aug 30 2011 @ 12:00 AM

If a person does a 360 degree turn around that person will be heading in the same direction as 360 is a full circle. To turn ones life around he would only do a 180 to be heading in the opposite direction.

Betrayed

I feel as though I have been kicked in the stomach and stabbed in the back. Many years ago I trusted someone with my deepest feeling and later found them using this information to do me harm. Well today I discovered it has happened again but this time my entire church is in jeopardy because of anothers betrayal.

A member of the church, a shut-in, has been the recipient of visits from my wife and my self since October of last year and my wife and this person have talked on the phone on numerous occasions. The shut-in was a member of the church when it was pastored by another preacher but is now unable to attend because of a severe medical condition.

I videotape the worship services and deliver them to the shut-in so they can share in the services and get to know us. I always left their home feeling uplifted.

I was not aware that this person was one of the trustees of the church. The other two are the former pastor and his wife, which doesn't seem to me to be quite right that non-members have control of financial decisions of the church.

A construction company is seeking to buy the property the church sits on so contacted this member about purchasing the property and they contacted the former pastor and his wife to see if they could come to an agreement about selling the land.

They used as justification the possibility of us moving into a larger building and perhaps selling this building to help defray the costs of the new place.

I suppose they think it more Godly that they sell the place out from under the church and pocket the money for their own welfare.

It took me a long time to trust people after the last betrayal and now it has happened again.

I did not inform this person of the churches plans or enlighten them in any way that selling the present property was in any way a possibility. Other members of the church are also friends with them. I did ask questions about the building and a church sign that turned out to be for a church that once occupied the building in question but moved on many years prior. I'm sure from my conversation and from input from others that the shut-in was able to deduce likely scenarios but instead of discussing things with the preacher or the deacon they have conspired to do the church wrong.

How disgusting.

marvin the martian antenaball

At one time I had a Marvin the Martian antena ball I purchased from a Warner-Brother store in downtown Newy Yourk City and I kept it for years in its original pakage but one day I decided to put it on my antena, just for the day mind you, jus so I could really enjoy it. I made one quick stop and in a brief couple of minutes it was stolen.

I've looked for the last twelve years for a replacement but to date none exist for me to find. Can anyone help me?

Jaded West Coast chuckles over East Coast quake

Yankees think we can't drive in the snow, now westerners think we handle earthquakes in a silly manner. I've heard if one talks with a southern accent ones IQ automatically drops 10 points. True, this is my first earthquake on the east coast since I was born and that was long before most people living people were.

However, I was in an earthquake in Puerto Rico and California, a hurricane in Texas and Florida, and floods in Kentucky, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. I'm sorry but none of it was fun --not even the mild earthquakes like this one.

Tremor

At 1:54 pm on 8-23-2011 Randleman, NC had a small earth tremor. I had been out tilling my garden and had just came in, sat down with a cold drink to relax and cool off when I felt my home vibrating. It vibrated harder and harder, the ceiling fan was shaking, and it was beginning to feel like a little bumpy ride when it quit. The entire experence lasted for a minute or a little less.

My wife called her sister in Asheboro who felt it and she also called city hall who confirmed they had felt it too.

Video Commercials

90% of the time I do not watch a video because I am forced to watch a commercial first. The one I hate the most is on dateline about a drug company that claims to be our friend also, just not a company making money off our illnesses and the same commercial is played after every clip of a dateline episode and is played on every episode as well. The part that irritates me the most about the commercial is that it features a man saying he has diabetus when he doesn't as there is no such disease and the drug company knows that yet they knowingly shown that part of the commercial just because many like people mispronounce diabetes. Now if they showed him eating fried chicken and watermelon they would probably be sued for stereotyping when in fact I like watermelon and fried chicken just as much, if not more than any of them. I know how to pronounce diabetes and to knowingly allow this man in their commercial to mispronounce that word is wrong.

Inappropriate kiss

I was watching a Little League World Series game, Rhode Island versus Pennsyvania and due to Little League rules on pitch count, the R.I. coach had to change his pitcher. When the starter was removed from the mound his coach gave him a kiss on the cheek. As the boy walked away he took his jersey and wiped the kiss from his cheek.

Somehow, I just don't think that kiss was appropriate. Not unless the coach was the kids dad.

Stupid decisions

One of the videos on the news tonight was of an SUV, tag # ccz7335, being swallowed by a sinkhole in Detroit, Michigan. Now,if the car had been parked and a sinkhole just appeared then I would feel sorry for the owner but it is obvious the driver of the SUV made some stupid decisions. For one, common sense says never drive into standing water but people do it all the time. If one is lucky they get through but in case they can't, the best they can hope for is a flooded out car but sometimes there are swift currents that carry the vehicle away and sometimes the driver becomes trapped and even drowns.

Second thing one notices is the part of the payment is sticking out of the water. The concrete is high enough it is clearly visible. Another obvious thing is that the driver was not paying attention to what was in front of the vehicle. Talking on a cell phone or texting perhaps?

The third thing one notices about this incident is that the divider mnarkings on the road are clearly visible, a solid yellow no less, but the SUV is clearly straddling the line. Actually it is almost completely in the opposite lane.

Somehow I doubt that the driver sees where he did anything wrong.

Islam, the religion of peace

NEW YORK (AP) — A frequent contributor to a jihadist website has threatened David Letterman, urging Muslim followers to "cut the tongue" of the late-night host because of a joke the comic made on his CBS show.

New meaning to "admitted to the Ohio State Bar"

State officials are debating a proposal to establish what would apparently be the nation's first statehouse bar — a venue where lawmakers and even members of the public could tip a few back after hours if they reserve the space

I have always been of the opinion that government competition with private enterprise wasn't legal. Maybe the proposed bar will be run by private enterprise. Still, somehow it just doesn't seen right that our lawmakers can get drunk in the very place that they make our laws. Just doesn't seem right.

citizenship tests

Random Americans were given the test used to determine eligibility for US citizenship and really didn't fair all that well. Seventy-eight percenbt of evanglical Christians passed the test while the lowest ranking group of americans to fail was liberal Democrats.

Who is running this country?

Liberal Democrats.

Wow. We are dumb.

Good week for my wife

My wife finished a cross stitch project she has spent many years working on. It is of numerous lighthouses and is quite involved. I'm proud of her for sticking with in year after year. Tomorrow she will have the pin removed from her big toe and after she does I'll let her drive the car again.

Actually she is well enough to drive now but with that big awkward shoe (I call it a flap shoe after the sound it makes when it hits the groud) I believe it is too big a chance to take driving as it would be so easy to steo on the gas and the brake at the same time and that's not a good thing.

I know she will be happy to get the pin out and to be able to walk again without pain.

A good example

"Vicky Wyatt of Greenpeace said Shell had not been released information about the spill as quickly as it should have."

In an article featured on North States homepage is a perfect example of the poor writing I've been complaining about.

Moon Flower

It's like a morning glory only the blooms are white, about six to eight times the size of a morning glory bloom and only bloom in the dark.

Paper on the ground in the rain

I look forward to my paper every morning (except Monday) and was disappointed yesterday when I went out to retrieve it. Some one had damaged my paper box and the white plastic box was laying on the ground, the metal clip that holds it to the pole was facing the wrong direction, and the green pole was twisted in an odd fashion. My paper, not placed in a plastic bag in spite of the fact it had rainned the night before anbd was supposed to rain Sunday, was laying on the ground.

Another paper was sent out and the box is supposed to be repaired today.

Who?

The world's top-ranked player, Luke Donald, is at 4 under on the day and within three shots of the lead. Robert Karlsson, Anders Hansen and Scott Verplank are tied with Donald at 5 under, while second-ranked Lee Westwood and Adam Scott are four strokes behind.

In all ythe articles I've read about gold, almost all mentioned the 33rd ranked golfer but I've never heard of Luke Donald anbd he has been mentioned onhe just this one line in all the articles about this tournament. Wow.

Pit Bull lovers disagree but it was a Pit Bull

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A pregnant San Francisco area woman was killed by one of her pit bulls, her mauled body found by her husband, police said on Friday.

The 32-year-old woman was pronounced dead on Thursday afternoon at the couple's home in the seaside village of Pacifica, south of San Francisco, Pacifica Police Capt. Dave Bertini said.

Authorities withheld the names of the victim and her husband.

Bertini said the woman's husband told police he came home from work at around noon on Thursday to find one of the couple's pit bulls standing, bloodied, over his wife's mauled body.

First responders to the scene found the woman unresponsive in a front room of the home with massive trauma to her upper body, Bertini said.

A second pit bull was found cowering in the corner.

Golf articles

Is it possible for a sports writer to do a story about a gold tournament and not mention Tiger Woods? Really now, he is ranked 33rd in the world and hasn't been a contender in two years so why is it necessary to mention him at all.

Arnold Palmer had Arnies Army and he was a great player but he wasn't mentioned in this article and is mention in very few. No one writes "McClain took a two stroke lead which is good enough for this tournament but might not have been if Arnold Palmer wasn't retired," or some other kind of nosense about a golfer who is not in contention.

Tiger Woods seems to be the focus of every golf story with him being central and golf secondary. I was hoping that since he fell from glory that while he wouldn't be forgotten he would not be thought of nearly as much but he gets mentioned if he plays good, plays bad or doesn't play at all.

It's like watching a two hour made for TV movie with 17 commercial breaks and the same commercial is played over and over again.

One gets might tired of it afyter awhile.

Schwarzenegger: smoking or no?

An airport official claims Arnold was not smoking because the picture shows no smoke; however, the end of the cigar looks to be aglow with burning tobacco and Arnold is holding a book of matches in his hand. The cigar would not smoke if the smoker is inhaling which the picture seems to indicate he is.

In case you missed the real story, Arnold is being investigated for breaking the law by lighting up at an airport. It wasn't in the US so don't go blaming the conservatives, George Bush, the Tea Party or Christians.

A different religion

One definition of religion is "a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects", ususally considered as towards a diety but can be any club or even a bowling league, for that matter. many men are religious about their sports or their hunting.

The two major religions of the world ate Christianity and Islam. The Jewish religion, the Christian religion, and Islam have some fundamental similarities. All three worship the same God, all three recognize Abrahman and the father of their religion, and all three recognize the reality of a saviour.

The Jews and the Christian reognize Isaac as the true heir of Abraham whicle Islam recognizs Ismael. The Muslims and Christians believe Jesus was the son of God, a great prohet and ascend into heaven while alive. Muslims don't believe Jesus rose from the dead while Jews do not recognize Jesus at all.

The Jews and the Muslims beleive in a future saviour who will set up a kingdom when he arrives.

Christianity was founded by Jesus in 30 AD and has spread though the teaching and preaching of the gospel by the disciples of Christ. Islam was founded by Mohammed in 570 and was spread by the teaching and preaching of Mohammed as well as by armed conflict.

Chritians believe that salvation is through a belief in and a relationship with Jesus Christ. Muslims believe salvation is granted through their faith in God and through their efforts at being good.

Flash Mob

Living in a small town and only receiving a small paper that covers local news almost exclusively except for sports, one doesn't learn about a lot of phenomenon as quickly as people in other areas, especially people who work in office type jobs. I'm retired so my contact with people is limited except at Church. Until this week I had not been aware of flash mobs and did not realize they could have been a local problem in Greensboro until this morning.

A flash mob, for those of you who like me have never heard of them, is a group of people linked together by cell phone who gathers quickly at the receiving of a text message. Even after watching a commercial of a man suddenly ripping his jacket off and doing this crazy dance in the train station (or where ever he was) it never dawned on methat people really did this via text message.

I don't text. I have a hard enough time typing on a regular keyboard. I don't use shortcuts on typing words either like many texters do. Does it make a difference?

Well, I first noticed the phenonenon in the comment section of articles but lately the reporters filling the stories are also getting worse at writing, often leaving words completely out of articles. It's geeting so that one isn't often clear exactly what another is trying to communicate.

To tell the truth it's not my world out there any more. People today don't have a belief in a God like they once did let alone a belief in God and a trust in a saviour.

Greensboro Blogs

I tried again to read some blogs from Greensboro. Greensboro 101 doesn't exist and the first blog I read from Greensboro 101 had 16 entries under idiots. Greensboro bloggers still can't be civil to each other.

Deceptive headlines

Scott wins 1st World title, with Woods' caddie

By DOUG FERGUSON AP Golf Writer The Associated Press

Sunday, August 7, 2011 6:02 PM EDT

He did not either. Woods and his caddie finished 37th. Scott and his caddie finished first. Scott's caddie was fired by Woods last month and only caddied Scott.

It's a shame but the fact that Woods did poorly is bigger news than Scott winning. Even so, one would think that writing a headline correctly and truthfully would take priority than sensationalising Woods loss with a lie.

9/11 conspiracy

"Alleging that the Bush Administration knew of the planned attacks before they occurred, the film claims that the attacks were deliberately executed to justify the United States' war on terror and obscure its real goals of economic gain and increased control over the population."

The above is quoted from an article on TrueTV about various conspiracy theories and specifically what happened at the twin towers in New York. If indeed the theory is fact, then it was an act of utter stupidity and failed miserably. With the economy tanked, not only in the US but around the world, we have seen many uprisings and several regime changes around the world related to the economic disaster that followed 9/11.

Doesn't it seem utterly odd that people can give Bush credit for pulling off duch an elaborate ruse and at the same time claim that GW was an intellitual lightweight?

This is a picture from an article titled the "100 dorkest yearbook photos" or something like that but I have to disagree since I am a big Marvin the Martian fan.

nursing home shooting

A local area man stands accused of 8 murders but claims innocense based on his drug and alcohol use. His defense is that he was so high he didn't know what he was doing.

It is common knowledge that using druga and/or alcohol changes ones personality and perception of reality and increases one likelyhood of doing abnormal things and reacting to situations in a violent manner. How often have you heard it said of someone 'he is really a nice guy unless he has been drinking."

Knowing this, if a man chooses to use druga and alcohol he is in fact accepting responsibility for his actions based on foreknowledge of what those drugs and alcohol will do to him therefore he cannot then claim innocense based on those consequences.

Jailed for what?

A story in todays paper tells of a Lexington woman who was jailed under a $50,000 bond because she had 5 kids living in a house with no running water and no air conditioning.

What should have been the crime was having five kids between the ages of 1 and seven. That's 5 children in six years folks and while not too many per se, it is too many if one can not afford to raise them.

Exactly how long has the world been blessed with air conditioning and running water? In thde scheme of things, not long at all. Both my parents grew up in homes like that. In fact my mom's mom didn't gett indoor plumbing until the mid sixties and I don't believe the home has air conditioning yet.
