The magic of weight loss

I own a Wii. When I first got it I worked out everyday and with those workouts and a change in my diet I lost 50 lbs. While my wife was out following her knee surgery I stopped working out and I slowly gained back 17 pounds but I have managed to level off since then. About six or seven weeks ago I started a walking program and for the last monthI walk between four and four and a halgf miles at the gym and average over 8 miles a day walking.

On the weekends when I don't go to the gym I work out on the wii for at least an hour. I am also controlling my diet like I did before. So far for six weeks of hard work, I'v gained 1 pound.

I have to admit my clothes aren't as tight so maybe my failure to lose weight to this point isn't as bad as it seems but it is frustrating. Still, I'll keep plugging along and one day, that magical weight loss will happen.

A high price for trying to be cool

A thirteen year old kid doesn't try drugs on his own. someone has to get him interested first and trying to be cool and fit in makes him gives drugs a shot. Too bad.

The boy smoked the fake marijuana out of a plastic PEZ candy dispenser. The chemicals in the drugs caused extensive damage to his lungs. Brandon was put on a respirator in June and had a double lung transplant in September.

Now he is dead.

Cheap weddings

After my first wife passed, I met another lady and before long we were engaged. We wanted a private, intimate, low cost wedding but we alsowanted a nice affair. Fortunenately, my aunt was a dress maker and professional seamtress and she just happened to have one of the most beautiful and expensive dresses to give to my bride. The former owner of the dress didn't want it afte her fiance was killed in an accident. She also loaned the bride-to-be a diamon tiffany necklace.

The may that was to do the singing backed out because he had had a falling out with the pastor of the church so we did everything via tape. The wedding march, the songs, everything but the preacher. We had to practice to get the timing down correctly.

My mom was a professional florisr so she made the flowers and did all the arrangements which were so beautiful. The bride was a professional cake decorator and baker so she made the wedding cake. It was quite pretty and tasty as well.

We did spring for professional engraved invitations though. We purchased whole chickens on sale, had cocktails weinnies, delicious cole slaw, and a variety of other eats which we prepared ourselves.

The ushers did a marvelous job, the wedding went off without a hitch, and the reception was a delight. The whole affair only set us back a few hundred dollars.

Of course not everyone has time to prepare all the food and it is unlikely that the bride will be gifted a thousand dollar wedding dress, but still, there is no reason not to have a lavious wedding and run up a huge bill that will keep the newlyweds in time for years.

Redneck dictionary

Obama: all by my.

used in a sentence: "I bought a case of beer and I drank it Obama self. "

hot sauce

I just made a few ounces of habenaro hot sauce but a few ounces goes a long way. I just pour a couple of ounces of vinegar in the blender, drop in 2 cups of haberno peppers and blend. I squeeze the juice into a bowl and then pour into my squeeze bottle. The stuff that is leftover I spread out to dry. It makes great flavoring to sprinkle on pizza.

Yea, the sauce is hot. Just making the sauce will cause ones sinuses to open up. If you get any on your hands be sure to wash thouroughly afterwards. If you don't and you touch your eyes they will burn.

When using the sauce, remeber a little goes a long way. It is 10,000 times hotter than Texas Pete. Og but is it good.

Obama to offer relief on student loans

Buy a house you can't afford, tank the countries economy and wreck havoc around the world and Obama will help arrange cheap refinanacing for you. Make bad loans, wreck the economy, and Obama will bail you out. Borrow money for an education,go to school, and don't want to pay back the money you borrowed, Obama will help you out.

But, he's not a socialist. You don't have to take responisibility for your decisions.

I can't beleive he/she said this

If you're an overweight woman in this competition, losing weight, they love you. If you're an overweight guy trying to do this competition, getting in shape, they penalize you for it, call you a penguin," Chaz was captured telling the cameras after last night's show, which saw him and partner Lacey Schwimmer receive just 19/30 points.

Well, Chaz, if you feel dicriminated against as a man, you should have stayed a woman. You weren't happy being a female so you became a male and now you are complaining about how you are treated as a male. As the country song says, if you've been married more than three times, just maybe the problem is you.

Actually, you should be glad you could even be on the show. Afterall it is dancing with the stars. You are the child of a star, not a child star. You began life as a cut little blonde haired girl and know you are a fat ugly guy. So what part of your life makes you a star?

Back in the good old days

Often when a man is caught and charged with murder, especially of a child or really innocent type person and the murder was particularly cruel, someone will comment that they would love the chance to punish the killer.

Well, in the good old days in Germany, the law did it that way. Here is what happened:

When caught, the law's retribution for the evil trio was almost as barbaric as their crimes. Stump's body was tied to a cartwheel and the flesh was pulled from his bones with red hot pincers. Still alive, his arms and legs were then broken with a wooden hatchet and he was beheaded. His headless corpse was then burned alongside his mistress and daughter.

Dumb headlines

"4 quake survivors pulled out alive in Turkey" reads an AP headline for a story that ran on the North State home page. I remember a joke about a plane crashing on the USA/Canadian border. On which side of the border were the survivors buried? was the question. "You can't bury survivors" is the punch line. I guess AP didn't think about that when the above headline was written and the proofreader (if they have them anynore) missed it. Spell check is not going to catch such mistakes.

The headline could have been written "Four Quake Victims Pulled Out Alive in Turkey"
or "Four Quake Survivors Pulled Out of Ruble in Turkey". It should have been obvious that the survivors were alive. If they weren't, they would not have been survivors.

Give a person a college education and a job and he still is ignorant. What a waste.

Now that the world has ended

Now that the world has ended how does it feel to wake up dead? It has been three days and life goes on as usual, which may or may not be a gpood thing. I'm still retired and my wife is still working. I had put away some $4,000.00 so we could enjoy our vacations and to work on some projects around the house but my wife needed foot surgery which wiped out my nestegg so I can afford to spend nothing but it cost something just to live. I need gas for my truck now and then or some little things. I try to make do the best I can.

Hopefully, with the start of the new year I can find a part-time job that pays decently so I'll have a little spending money and enough to save for vacations and such. Even though the world ended three days ago, it seems it costs as much as it did as when we were here. How is that?

What?

.
......Now that Gadhafi is dead, what has happened to his eight children?
.
.By Laura Rozen
Senior Foreign Affairs Reporter
.PostsEmailRSS .By Laura Rozen | The Envoy – Fri, Oct 21, 2011..

"Now that Gadhafi is dead' is totally unneccesary.

People do that a lot. A relative calls an employee just about quiting time and the person taking the phone call picks up the mic and says "If Joe is still in the store answer line 3. "He could have just said"Joe, answer line three."

I don't think Gaddafi's death has anything to do with the fate of his children, or at least not this soon after his death.

Sports

The World Series is going on but the feature stories on the sports pages are mcnabb losing his starting job and a bad interview with a Jets player. I know that football is now a more popular sport but give us baseball players our due. Its not like no one follows baseball.

Survey says

A question on one home page asks "Was the Iraq War worth it?'

Are you asking the men and women who did the actual fighting and their friends and family. the politicians and government workers and military leaders who plan the wars and the manufactuers who supply the equipment, or are you asking the average American who can't locate Iraq on a map (many can't even find the United States)?

World ends today

Discredited Harold Camping revised his end of world predictions from May 21 to Oct 21. many others are predicting the end of the world to be in December of next year. Soon these idiots will quit predicting the end times as we go farther and farther away from the crucifixion of Christ, less and less people will actually believe in the Biblical account as it will be harder to find numbers and formulas and world events that "prove" the end date.

People didn't believe Noah. It had never rained so it was a bizaar event as far as they were concerned. Noah was building this huge boat on dry land and it took 120 years. Of course he was a fool. Abraham and Sari had a baby well passed the time when it was humanly possible for Sari to give birth. These are just a couple of examples from the scriptures of things coming to pass well after it was possible. One thing that god has always done is take the human element out of things. Just like salvation. It isn't of works but pure grace. It isn't about being good. When we realize that there is nothings we can do ourselves but only God can accomplish it, then it will come about.

When the end times do come they will not be a sudden end. There will be a rapture of Christians. There is some controversy of whether this rapture will take place before, during, or at the end of the tribulation period but there is no doubt that it will occur.

One thing for sure, people will deny that it occurred.

The reality is this earth will be around for a long time to come but one day things will come to an end. If it turns out the non-believers are correct then the earth won't come to a sudden end but die a slow death. This natural end of earth will be far worse than the tribulation pictured in the bible and there would be no hope for anyone, in this life or the next, if there is a next.

Church is full

I haven't given an update from One Way Baptist is awhile. No, I haven't lost my enthusiasm for the church but have grown in my desire to attend and to see the church grow, which it has. Melony was back with us last night after recovering from surgery. Theressa had been out also taking care of Melony. With those two ladies back, we had a full house Sunday morning. Terry has to work on Sunday nights but we had a visitor last night.

We have had some good services but yesterday was special. I have never been to a church that shows as much love for each other as One Way. Rev. Garrett is not only a good preacher but a wonderful pastor. The only member not present yesterday was Mrs. Tickle but considering she is ninety-one and has to depend on others to bring her, which they seldom will, we understand.

But even though the house was full , we still would have found room for her, and not only her, but for you also.

Starting this Wednesday night we will begin our new convert classes. No, these classes are not an indoctrination but just some basics of the Christian faith that will provide a strong foundation for the new Christians to build their Christian witness on and a good refresher course for more mature Christians also. Sometimes we all leave or first love.

Most morning services are available on DVD and these classes will be also so if you would like to have one (or more) just leave me a note or contact me at my e-mail address at dsprl2000@gmail.com and I will get one to you.

We will be having our Christmas play on December 11th and we would love you you to come see it. It won't be an elaborate stage production but it will be enjoyable, I guarantee.

On the 23rd we will be having a missionary from Africa speaking in the evening service (starts at six o'clock) and on the 30th we will have Dr. Savage and some of his kids from the children's home presenting a song service. Come and support the kids and receive a blessing.

Our building is small but we have a lot of extra chairs so we will find you a seat.

Sunday school starts at 10 o'clock and worship service begins at 10:30. Prayer room is Sunday evening at 5:45 and evening worship is at 6. Wednesday services begin at
7. The ladies meet once a month on Saturdays and we are beginning a men's prayer breakfast soon as we change our visitation from Thursday night to Saturday.

I also have a home prayer meeting on Tuesday night at my home so if you want to have a more informal setting in which to receive help studying the bible you are more than welcomed to come. Just let me know and I'll give you directions.

The church is located at 604 Sunset in Randleman. Sunset runs from Stout Street to Main street (directly across from Sir Pizza).

Our pastor lives in Thomasville as does our associate pastor but we do have a missionary that is local. Being small we do not have a lot of activities like the bigger churches do. We don't have room for a piano or organ and we don't have Sunday School rooms or a fellowship hall but what we do have is love for each other and a love for Christ and room for you. Come and be with us.

Right as rain

My son contacted me via facebook and told me my niece, whom I haven't seen it sixteen years, was wondering if it would be okay if she contacted me. I said yes and after a few e-mails we set up a date to meet.

I have suffered a lot of heartache and pain from her family which has made me standoffish about people. I seldom let myself get close to people now. A good example would be like this gentleman that starting coming to the church. He's 78
and very lonely since his wife passed away. I took it upon myself to always chat with him and even went to visit him once. We would talk on the phone at least once a week and I took the associate pastor with me once to visit him.

When he came to church he would always look to see if I was there. Once, the pastor and I were together doing some church business and stooped by his house to see if he wanted to join us for breakfast. It turned out the preacher and he had a lot of aquaintences in common and we talked for hours.

The church was going to elect new trustees and the preacher and I were talking about possibilities and I suggested him, except he wasn't a church member. He was contacted about the situation. He hasn't been back to church since nor has he contacted me. He now goes to church somewhere else.

It's hurtful when you reach out to help someone with their problems and want to be their friend but they can't find it within themselves to be honest with you.

Anyway, I took my wife with me when I meet my niece for lunch and we had a nice time talking. I have to admit I made no effort to clean up. I needed a shave and I wore the clothes I had been wearing while working in the yard. I figured there wasn't any use making an effort to impress her when her family has had years to poison her against me. Still, I did pick up the check for her meal and that of her son.

She asked me about some videos I had made when she was young and I informed her I still had one or two left. I emailed her about the tapes but I haven't heard from her in almost two weeks since we meet.

it hurts too much too care.

Stupid article

Correct word or not?

"The distraught Missouri parents of missing 10-month-old Lisa Irwin revealed this morning that they their cell phones were missing when they fantically tried to call 911 after discovering that their "Pumpkin Pie" was not in her crib."

I believe I might be a little fantically calling 9-1-1 if I discovered my baby missing too. Just how many times does one need to call the emergency number in order to be a fantic anyway? And what is a fantic? Or is it a fantical?

I can visualize the parents being frantic when calling 9-1-1 but then most people are when calling in a real emergency: not the "I didn't get my chicken nuggets" or "I need a ride to my crack house" calls but life or death type emergencies.

Really, these journalists need better proofreaders as these types of errors are way to common. When I was young, maybe one such error would be reported in the Hickory Daily Record every month or so but now it is almost every article.

No wonder America is losing its edge.

Electricity rate increase

I'm sure you are aware that Duke Power has asked for a 18.9% rate increase mainly due to a failed wind turbine project. Boy, wouldn't it be nice if we had that power. Go tell your boss that you need an 18.9% pay raise because you purchased a car you can't afford or you were in an ajustable rate mortgage and it went up a lot more than you had anticipated.

Duke power made a mistake. They should just learn to deal with it like I have to and you have to.
Many years ago I took a job making #2.25 an hour. That year I purchased a new car, rented a nice apartment, purchased new furniture, and supported a wife and kid and still managed to save some money.

What is a shame is that 40 years later and after numerous pay raises I can no longer do what I could while I made $2.25 an hour, because inflation has always been higher than my wage increase. Tax rate increases hasn't helped the situation any either.

Over that period of time I've learned how to survive on little but a person can only cut back so much. 18.9% increase is rediculous, by any standard, for any reason, at any time. I'm sure Duke Power will only get a fraction of what they are asking for and the powers that be will think they are being fair to the public and Duke Power by allowing only a 9% or 10% increase. Well hocky puck, it isn't fair to the public to increase rates at all, especially for a failed endeavor Duke Power didn't have to try anyway.

Management should take a cut in pay until Duke Powers loss is made up since they made the stupid decision. For crying out loud, if I purchased a car requiring that I make %600.00 a month payments when I can only afford $400.00, I certainly can't pass that deficit on to someone else. i would just have to sell the car and eat the loss or figure out how to cut back on my living expenses.

Duke Power should do the same.

I don't mind a rate increase to pay for an increase in raw materials, but to pay extra for a failed project is beyond wrong.

Buckle-up

Gravley's passenger was her granddaughter 21 year-old Jessica Wilson of Elon. Wilson was killed as a result of the crash. Trooper Ingraham said Wilson was also not properly restrained by her seatbelt.

From North State home page

Greensboro, NC -- A new grocery store will open in the location of the former Winn-Dixie at 2521 Phillips Avenue.

City leaders are expected to announce the details in a news conference Thursday at the Bessemer Shopping Center. The name of the store will be announced at that time.

The grocery store is expected to employee 20-25 people.

The Winn-Dixie closed its doors in the late 90s and the store has been vacant since.

People who have been pushing for a new grocery store said this is a victory.

"We didn't give up," said Gayland Oliver, who lives nearby and is the executive director of the Eastern Development Growth Enterprise.

"For the senior citizens in Claremont, they may have to catch the bus two and three times a month just to get groceries. They can't take but so much in their hands," he added.

Mary Lou Clapp, a member of the Bessemer Redevelopment Steering Committee, said, "I feel very happy. I think it validates what we've said all along: it's time for our community in the northeast section to be part of the total community of Greensboro."

"We're just happy that this day is finally here," she said.

No one really wanted to open a store there because of the shoplifting and danger to employees. The poor community appreciates a grocery store so much because it gives them a chance to steal food close to home where it is easier to get away with it. Can you imagine having to depend on the city bus system as a get-a-way vehicle?

My best guess is this store will be a Sav-a-lot, an American version of an Aldi--a bag your own, no frills, basic needs only type of store.

Amanda Knox is innocent

I have followed this story from the beginning and while the prosecution seemed to have a decent case one only had to look deeper into it to realize that some of their evidence was faulty and their theory of what happened just doesn't ring true.

I'm glad she was found innocent as well as her boyfriend. The real killer has been behind bars for years having been convited of the crime before Amanda Knox was tried the first time.

It is possible she killed her roommate but not involving a total stranger, especially involving a sex triangle as the prosecution contended. Police are very good at extracting confessions, even false ones. No, she never confessed but she did point the investigation in the wrong direction under pressure from the police.

Police: Connecticut toddler dies after pit bull attack

Threepit bulls wereinvolved in an attack on a 20 month old girl.

Just friendly pets, good with kids, pit bull owners will argue.

Fire Ant Wars

It seems that the spring and fall bring on a fury of nest building by fire ants and they seem to love my yard. In the last two weeks I have gone through a canister of Seven dust and a 20 lb. bag of ant poison plus a pack of ant bait stakes.

Quite honestly, it seems like the poison just chases them around the yard. Got a neighbor you don't like? You are welcomed to come over and dig up some fire ants to put in their yard.
